Skinny Steve: Wants you to take notice!

This month Joe Miller, a Solent University final year student is undertaking some Guerrilla marketing to try and raise awarness for the homeless and The Society of St James.

‘Guerrilla advertising’ is a non-traditional cheap method of generating awareness that works by grabbing, and subverting people’s attention when they least expect it, it has a surprise element and is often ambient.

St James guerrilla campaign involves a homeless Skeleton who goes by the name Skinny Steve, and has been moving around from place to place in the town in recent weeks creating awareness and generating hype with his message ‘how long until you take notice’?

Skinny Steve gives a fun but serious point that too many people ignore the homeless and they must take action before it is too late.

“Far too many people have a stereotyped view the homeless and how they act, including me, we do not look at them at the same level and its extremely problematic. I am working with St James because I feel it is time to get people to take notice of the homeless, remove the stigma and blame attached and encourage everyone to try and make a real difference” - Joe Miller, Southampton Solent

At the moment, they would love to hear from any newspapers wanting to take this up as a story - the more coverage the better! If you're a reporter, please email Sam to get involved!

You can find out more about what Steve has been up to by Liking his facebook fan page.

If you see Skinny Steve out and about, take a photo with him and post it to their facebook page, or/and tweet about it with the hashtag #skinnysteve - let's raise awareness of homelessness & get rid of that stigma attached to the people on the streets.
